January 2010 |
- You can still install fescue sod, if you plan to seed wait until soil temperature increases to 60 degrees F. If you plan to overseed soon, do not apply a pre-emergent, this will prevent seed germination.
- Fix any drainage issues, with all the rain we receive during the Winter you
can see where improvements may be needed.
- Mulch beds and trees if you have not already done so.
- Install hardscape projects such as patios and pathways
- Install your cool season vegetable garden. Broccoli, cabbage, lettuce,
and greens!
- Prune deciduous trees and shrubs that bloom in the summer. Remove any
dead branches at this time, also. Wait to prune Spring flowering plants,
you don’t want to cut off flower buds!

2010 |
- Build a firepit to keep warm on cool nights. Kits
available, easy setup!
- Transplant woody shrubs and trees while they
are dormant
- Fertilize established Fescue lawns with combination
fertilizer/pre-emergent (only if you do not plan
to overseed!)
- Plant B&B trees now, we have a fresh batch
of dogwoods, cherries, and maples.
- Prune evergreens for shape early this
month.

2010 |
- Apply pre-emergents to Bermuda lawns, don’t
wait too long or you’ll miss weed seed
germination.
- Wait to prune Spring flowering plants, such
as azaleas, until after they flower!
- Clean up perennial foliage and stems that have
been knocked back by a hard frosts to allow new
foliage to emerge in the Spring.
- Transplant woody shrubs and trees while they
are dormant.
- Don't forget to water newly installed or transplanted
plants if there hasn't been adequate rainfall.
- Mow Liriope at highest setting on mower and
clean out beds.
- Cut back and dethatch ornamental grasses before
they start to push out new growth.
